Open Central Europe (OCE) aims to address urban vacancy by the temporary use of vacant spaces and by understanding and discussing the mechanisms of these practices. Our goal is to generate debate about the newest practices of interim use in Central Europe, and make their lessons learned more accessible, applicable by transforming them into a practical guide for Central European citizens, urban communities, public and private property owners.

OCE WORKSHOPS

The workshops of OCE are connected to local reused (or to-be-reused) empty spaces in Warsaw, Budapest and Bratislava. Participants will turn the lessons learned of the specific temporary uses into a practical guide, that helps urban actors to reclaim, reuse and revalue vacant properties. In Budapest the workshop will be accompanied with a “Matchmaking event”, where the future owners and projects of the Open Festival can meet each other and introduce themselves.

OPEN! FESTIVAL

We open longtime vacant ground-floor shops for a month in Budapest. The social and cultural enterprises are able to test the advantages and disadvantages of physical presence and constant availability with reduced risk. The shop owners take part in a new kind of mediation that is based on personal networks and trust.

OCE FINAL CONFERENCE

The Final Conference with our Central European partners aims to exchange experiences and knowledge in the field of temporary use of urban properties. During the conference we make a guided tour at the sites of the festival, where participants can meet the projects and shop owners.
